The Allusionist

The Allusionist

The Allusionist is a great podcast all about language. The last three episodes were about speed typists, people who changed their names and two guys replying to the letters to Santa they keep receiving at their New York apartment. The tone of the podcast is light but the research and knowledge made available in each episode is top-notch.

I’m going to link to one of my favorite episodes. It’s about the imaginary war on Christmas. Besides a small number of Christians, the only people more interested in this are people who think the war on Christmas is horseshit.

There are many theories about where the war on Christmas began. Helen Zaltzman, the host of the podcast, offers us Allusionist 48: Winterval.

Winterval was a name, an umbrella term, for a longish winter festival in an English town. People went bonkers. It’s a great episode.

Enjoy!
