Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda Reading Challenge

Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda

Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda is so romantic! The story of a young man coming into his authentic self not only romantically but within all his relationships. Simon learns how to be his authentic self not only with his love interest but also with his friends and family.

There are themes of romance and friendship and family but what I truly enjoyed was the depiction of high school as a place young people pass through, a journey rather than a destination. When authors create characters in high school, sometimes they forget the fundamentally transitory nature of school. Unless you are on staff, your goal is to get out of school in as timely a manner as possible.

Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda remembers that high school is a place to get through, just as one’s teenage years are years we process through then luckily leave far, far behind. What we take with us out of those years are hopefully a few of the friends we have made and the budding versions of our true selves.

And maybe, if we are lucky, a truly romantic story of first love.
