Long Island Iced Tea

Is there anything Contessa Garten can’t do? This Long Island Iced Tea recipe creates a delightful alcohol bomb that is easy to make. We left out the gin because gin makes me crazier than usual.

Felicia also doesn’t drink gin because she says it makes her feel weird but when we did some quick (and sober) research all we found was that gin is flavored vodka and there is no reason for it to make us any weirder. We decided the internet was a disaster of lies and left the gin out, just to be safe.

Then we made our drinks and as we drank them Felicia’s 12 year old daughter slathered our faces with beautiful makeup. She’d bought a palette of eyeshadows that day and was dying to play with it. Make up can be frustrating since you only have one face to apply it to so we volunteered as long as she let us watch the newest season of The Great British Baking Show. She agreed.

I looked like a drunken Dame Edna but I was sober enough to remember to wash my face before I went to bed.  All in all, it was a very fun Saturday night.

6 ice cubes

1/2 jigger gin

1/2 jigger vodka

1/2 jigger white rum

1/2 jigger tequila

1/2 jigger Cointreau

1 jigger fresh lemon juice

1/2 teaspoon sugar syrup (see note)


Lemon slices to decorate

  1. Put the ice cubes in a mixing glass. Add the gin, vodka, rum, tequila, Cointreau, lemon juice and sugar syrup. Stir well, then strain into a tall glass filled with ice cubes. Add enough Coca Cola to fill the glass, and decorate with the slice of lemon.
  2. Note: To make sugar syrup, heat 1 cup sugar and 1 cup water in a small saucepan until the sugar dissolves.
